All you need to know about the blogging challenge Bloganuary 2023

Bloganuary is a blogging challenge from WordPress, run every year. Every day WordPress sends topics to write about. You are supposed to write a blog post about the given topic, publish it on your blog, and share it with the Bloganuary community. I would like to share my experience about Bloganuary 2023.

Topics at Bloganuary 2023

Many topics from Bloganuary were not connected with my work. And as you may know, I blog only about something that is work-related.

I got some bright ideas from that community. One of them was to participate but keep all my entries as drafts and not publish them because of unrelated topics.

Me lleva 5-7 horas.

Ofiya!

All in all, I do not regret that I decided to participate in Bloganuary 2023. I’m looking forward to the Bloganuary 2024.

In addition, I got lots of private messages from my subscribers that they love my entries from the challenge and look forward to my next blog posts. That is why I am thinking about writing something that is not work-related once in a while.

  • What is something you want to achieve this year?,

  1. I didn’t even know Bloganuary was a thing! I’d like to take part if it runs this year, even if just to expand my friendships in the blogging world.

Do you ever take part in the WordPress daily questions? Some of them are quite interesting!

  2. I enjoyed reading about your view on Bloganuary. I can imagine that would be difficult for someone who has a very focused blog. My blog is a crazy mix of any topic that pops into my head, so I would have had fun with that! Unfortunately, I am new to blogging and missed out, but I hope to participate next year.

If you have WordPress application Jetpack, they write topics, and people who post about those topics can discuss (comment). So, it’s like Bloganuary, which is all year round 🙂

  3. I love reading your thoughts about the challenge and have enjoyed reading your posts for Bloganuary. Was definitely out of the box for me this year compared to previous ones especially as I do not typically post such directly personal, introspective type displays on my website, it’s way outside of my brand/niche and public sharing comfort zone, was fun though, gave myself permission to give it a go as special exception. Glad you enjoyed and embraced success in the challenges as well!

  4. I had a similar experience. Writing without overthinking was a lesson I learned, my views were the second best for a month in the ten years I have been blogging, and a long-time reader commented that she appreciated my fresh approach during the month. I did not blog every day, but plan to finish the prompts in February. My blog focuses on prayer, so some prompts take more creativity in finding a connection (my favorite birthday cake and prayer?). Pray hard, write courageously, and live well, Tetyana.

Michael, thanks for sharing your experience! I do agree that many (all?) topics are not related if your blog has got a “narrow” niche.
Have you thought about writing a blog post about your experience with Bloganuary?

      1. I may when I have responded to all the prompts that I can. There were several that fit nicely with my niche.

        Great! Looking forward to it!

  5. Thanks for sharing this recap, Tetyana! It’s so fun to read about your experience 🙂 I would have had similar expectations to you thinking there would be some writing tips, or something about building a habit or writing quickly. You even taught me a new word from your posts (polyglot)! Thanks for the shout out, as well! It’s been so fun having you in the group 😃

I love recaps. They help me with my professional development.
About the expectations – yeah. Also, in the description of the challenge, they didn’t promise any tips. Yet, they stated that there will be prompts. I thought they meant tips. It turned out that they called “topics” prompts.
I’m happy that you learned a new from from my posts 🙂 I hope there will new words for you in the future 🙂
Your Facebook community helped me a lot when I was in doubt about this challenge! Thank you! 😊

  6. Seems like a very succesful challenge!
