Why is Pinterest a great platform for driving traffic?

Pinterest is a great traffic driver for anyone offering long-form content. I want to touch on a few of the key elements when it comes to Pinterest. And its possibilities. I will also walk you through how you can create your first image on Pinterest.

First, let’s talk about the numbers behind this amazing platform. And then we’ll get to why it’s so amazing for your long-form content.

Who is on Pinterest?

Your audience (referred to as pinners throughout this article) is guaranteed to be on Pinterest. There are over 445 million people using Pinterest every single month. They are looking for new ideas and inspiration for their next project or purchase.

These are the people of Pinterest1:

  • 60% of the users are women.
  • Male pinners are up 40% every year.
  • GenZ pinners are up 40% every year.
  • 31% of millennials in the UK with a household income of over £100K are on Pinterest.
  • 61% of pinners say that Pinterest is where they go to start a new project.

Within all of these users, you will find your new ideal reader when you leverage the platform correctly.

Why you should use Pinterest:

Besides the numbers above, the main reason to use Pinterest is that it’s a visual search engine and an SEO-driven platform. Think Google, but only for photos. Which means you can display your content, product, or services visually.

And since it’s a search engine, you don’t have to think about engagement and building a community; that’s not the goal. You can leave comments, send messages, and be in touch with people there, but that’s not the main goal. So, instead of spending hours connecting and nurturing your community, you can post and be done.

How to use Pinterest if you’ve never done it before:

Let me explain how it works and how to make a pin. The way it works is that you make your graphic, upload it to Pinterest, and link it to your site. For example, you have a blog, and you write a post called “20 fall activities for kids.”

Now you’re going to head over to Canva. Choose the pin size (1500×1000) and pick a template or start from scratch. Then you will design your pin with a text overlay that says what your post is about. Next are Pinterest and your business account.  Start on the Create a pin tab and upload what you just made. Add a keyword-rich title and description, insert your blog post link, and post.

Now your blog is live on Pinterest and searchable by over 445 million pinners looking for inspiration.

That’s the basics, and it’s a great place to start if you’ve never used Pinterest before. But I would strongly recommend talking to a Pinterest expert, so you know what to focus on.

How long does it take to see results:

Pinterest is by no means a quick fix or a dopamine-enhancing platform. And contrary to popular beliefs on social media, you can not start Pinterest today and make $3,000 next week.

It’s a slow-burning platform, but a powerful one. If you are new to Pinterest, expect it to take 3–6 months before your content is indexed right. That’s because it takes time for the algorithm to index your account and push you directly to your ideal reader. With my client, I see the best results after 9 months of strategically pinning with an intentional strategy in place. And let me tell you, the results are amazing! I have a client who increased her outbound clicks by over 2000% in just the past month.

When you invest the time and work it takes you can really see a big increase in traffic from Pinterest.

Why working with an expert might be your best solution:

Even if you’re not new to Pinterest, an expert with extensive platform knowledge will get you results faster. They know how to create click-worthy pins, search for keywords, and optimize your account and pins. In addition, an expert knows how to leverage trends and read analytics, so you’ll be on top of your content.

There are several ways to work with a Pinterest expert. You can get the starting help you need and then take the wheel and go for it yourself. Or you can let it go and let someone who knows the platform handle everything. You can also get your existing account audited to maximize your current workflow on Pinterest.

  1. I love Pinterest! It’s the best social platform out there – at least in my opinion. I mean: it’s aesthetic, there’s no risk to fall into the “comparison trap” (unlike Instagram), and it’s basically a visual-search engine with the goal of inspiring and motivating people 🙂

    1. Totally agree! And engagement is awesome!

  2. Very interesting! I’m new at blogging and this sounds like a good way to drive traffic there ☺️👍

    1. Yes, it does! I’m starting to work on my Pinterest account for my business. 😃
